What this visit is

Double-coated dogs shouldn’t be shaved — their undercoat needs to come out, not off. Our de-shedding visit combines a high-velocity blowout, undercoat rake and finishing brush to lift the loose fur before it ends up on your floor. Shaving a double coat does not reduce shedding at all; it removes the layer that insulates against heat and often grows back patchy. Expect a grocery bag of fur to leave the building without your dog.

Who it suits

Double-coated breeds that blow their coat twice a year — huskies, German shepherds, golden retrievers, corgis, aussies, malamutes. If you’re vacuuming daily and still finding fur woven into the sofa, this is the visit that fixes it. It is not the right appointment for single-coated dogs like poodles or shih tzus, who need cutting rather than raking, and we will point you at a Full Groom instead rather than sell you the wrong hour.

How the time is spent

A de-shed shampoo loosens the undercoat first, then a high-velocity blowout does most of the work before any rake touches your dog. Raking comes last and stays gentle — we never work one area long enough to redden the skin. The blowout is the loud part, so sound-sensitive dogs get it in short bursts with breaks in between, and we would rather leave a little coat behind than push a dog through the last ten minutes.

How often to come back

Every six to eight weeks through spring and autumn, and roughly quarterly the rest of the year. Booking just ahead of a coat blow rather than a month after it is far easier on everyone, your dog included. If you can feel loose fur lifting when you run a hand backwards along the coat, you are about due — that is a far more reliable signal than anything the calendar will tell you.
